The incense history is long in China, which dates back to Neolithic Age. Incense played an important role in ancient daily life. Literati used incense at the occasions like study and banquet, women used incense to keep warm. Incense was also used at occasions such as sacrifice and expressing feelings. The varied kinds of incense products from different social classes constituted Chinese incense culture. However, incense culture has became hobby of a small population due to increasing pace of modern life. This exhibition is organized to give the public the opportunity to know the ancient incense culture.

The contents of this exhibition has 4 units including The first unit: The history of incense, The second unit: Incense and religious life, The third unit: Incense and daily life, The fourth unit: Feeling of incense. The first unit shows the development of incense chronologically. The second and third units display the use of incense products in different occasions and its meaning core. The fourth unit analyses incense culture by displaying incense artworks. The design of this exhibition creates quiet atmosphere with pea green as main color and soft light. Scenes like bedroom and study are recreated. With the beautiful Guqin music and fragrance in the exhibition hall, the environment is peaceful and tender.

In recent years, our country is developing the construction of The Belt and Road. As one of the most important products of The Silk Road trade, spices used to play a vital role in the cultural and economic communication between the East and the West. This exhibition inherits and promotes the spirit of The Silk Road, shows Chinese traditional culture, enriches the cultural life of the public. This exhibition offers the public the way to cultivate their moral character from the speedy pace of modern life.
